On Saturday, July 4, 2020, at Adventist Health Care Center (formerly Fort Washington Hospital), our beloved mother, Hazel Savoy Harrison departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Hazel was born on August 21, 1938. She was the third of nine children born to the late Raymond and Rachel Brawner. She was affectionately known by her family as "Big Mama" and "Ditty"

Hazel was educated in the District of Columbia Public Schools; and was raised in the southeastern quadrant of Washington, D.C. She later married Jerome Savoy, Sr., and from that union six children were born. Her husband Jerome passed away in 1973.

Hazel worked various jobs in the Washington metropolitan area. She began her career as a crossing guard in southeast Washington, D.C. She subsequently worked as a bus aide for the city's public school system, followed by a position as a telephone operator at Suburban Hospital. In January 2003, Hazel retired as a PBX operator at the mayflower Hotel.

Hazel was a caring woman who had so much love for her family. Although she had six children of her own, every child in the family was considered her child, and was treated as such. On May 15, 1981, Hazel married the late William Harrison.

In 1993, Hazel gave her life to Jesus Christ and joined From the Heart Church Ministries. She loved her church and was actively involved in the life of the ministry. Prior to her illness, she faithfully served in the Duplication Ministry for many years.

Hazel loved to have gathers with her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her "one of a kind" potato salad. She also loved going on trips with her family and fishing with her brother Steve. Hazel will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Hazel leaves to cherish her memories her daughters; Veda Savoy, Geraldine Savoy, Carol Golphin (Alpatrick), and Vivian Dixon (Dennis); brothers, Stephen and Norman Brawner; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Hazel was preceded in death by her daughter, Rita Savoy; and son, Jerome Savoy, Jr.
